Spring 5784 - Abstract Meditative Painting

Teacher: Matthew John Bezalel Bivalacqua

Description: In this course, participants will be introduced to abstract compositional techniques, become familiar with the different functions of brush types, explore color theory and creating work informed by meditations on the weekly parsha, as well as Hebrew text, while having fun creating visual works. The course consists of three painting prompts, to be completed over an 8 week period. At the end of the course, we will have a presentation party, where participants will get to share their work and thoughts. 

Advanced painters are welcome to participate and/or work with me on developing advanced work or a portfolio.

Required Materials: Students are responsible for their own supplies. Teacher recommends www.dickblick.com for supplies.

Time: Wednesdays 12:30-2pm

Teacher BioMatthew John Betzalel Bivalacqua was born and raised Roman Catholic in Metairie LA, 1981. In 2015 he received his undergraduate degrees from the University of New Orleans, in Fine Arts and Philosophy. In 2018 he received his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans. In 2021, Matthew John converted to Judaism and in 2021 was awarded an Arts and Culture Fellowship from Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, in Jerusalem. For the past five years Matthew John has performed his poetry, reading at open mics in New Orleans, Fort Collins, Huston, Austin, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. You can check out his visual works at bivalacqua.com
